Yes folks, it really happened. Golden Nile is open now and we have another big "entertainment" temple in the style of Dollhouse, Atlantis and Crystal Palace.
If you ask me there are now more than enough of those city hall-like bars in Angeles City but maybe that is what the Koreans like. Charging 105 Pisos for a beer is a different story but I have high doubts that Golden Nile will turn out to be my favorite watering hole.
Oh yes, McDonald` s opened as well and you will find it at the corner of McArthur Highway and Fields Avenue. Not that I`m a big fan of McDo but having a BigMac meal after a heavy barhop at 3am in the morning is something I won`t say no to. Not to forget the (hopefully) clean comfort rooms they have there.

1. flight Bangkok - Clark yesterday
I just talked to a good friend of mine. He was on board of Cebu Pacific`s first flight from Bangkok, Thailand to Clark airport, Angeles City yesterday. Here`s what he said :
- Departure time was delayed by one hour. Usually for Cebu Pacific.
- Flight was not booked out. Around 80% of the seats were taken. Unlike Cebu Pacific`s Bangkok - Manila route, where most of the customers are Asian, on this route to Clark most passengers were western tourists.
- First guy who checked in at Bangkok airport won unlimited flights for one year for this route for free.
- Drinks and snacks only payable with US$. Instead of the regular 50 Pisos for a small bottle of water they charged US$. Heavy price increase !
I`m not sure what to think about this new route and if we will still have it in a year or so. It sure is a good thing for tourists coming to the Philippines from Thailand.
Time will tell.

Hell guys, I`m missing the wild SOB partys and hope one of the bar owners will get their act together and organize one soon. SOB was THE best party in town IMHO and canceled some time ago due to problems with local authorities.

Trip to Boracay
I just left Angeles City a few days ago for a little side trip to Boracay.
This tropical island has one of the most beautiful beaches to offer in all of the Philippines.
Got my ticket at the Seair office right here at SM mall in Angeles City. I couldn`t resist their promotional price around 6000 Pisos for a return ticket.
Flight to Caticlan went smooth, as far as one can use this term for this little bit ear-battering loud aircraft and we arrived pretty much on time after about one hour.
From Caticlan airport it`s only a short hop to the harbour where small boats are waiting to bring visitors to Boracay island.
Boracay`s beautiful White Beach is simply breathtaking. White sand, crystal-clear blue water and a real holiday feeling.
Unfortunately, Boracay is not what you would call a well-kept secret anymore. It has become a popular tourist spot, attracting hordes of tourists from all around the world.
If you want to stay in a nice hotel right on the beachfront, prepare to pay double of what a similar room would cost in Angeles City. I suggest you check out the smaller hotels a little bit away from the main beach. Very likely you will catch a bargain there.
Anyway, even with higher prices, Boracay is still the perfect getaway for a few days of sun-bathing and relaxing.

GOLDEN NILE opening soon ?
When is Golden Nile going to open ? I don`t know for how many months this big and impressive building is already there on Fields Avenue and waiting for customers to fill it. And what will it be anyway ? GoGo bar, hotel, restaurant or a casino ? Or all of it under one roof ? Judging from the photos below it looks like completion has almost been reached. I`m looking forward to have my first beer in Golden Nile although I doubt it will be my favourite watering hole. I never liked those huge bar temples like Dollhouse or Atlantis either. But hey, let`s wait until Golden Nile open its doors and then we will see.

What`s going on in Angeles City ?
McDonald`s is coming to Fields Avenue. You decide if this is good news or not. Construction is already going on at the end of Fields Ave at the corner to McArthur Highway. Expect an opening soon.
Almost every month we see the opening of another hotel here in Balibago. The new Walk-About Hotel looks nice and the location couldn`t be any better if the bars are your main reason why you come to Angeles City. It`s just a few steps away from the BLUE NILE-bar, opposite side of the Bangkok Hotel and the 1-2-3 Pizza. The hotel also has its own little gogo bar called the Vortex.
Just another raid in town. This time it happened to Cherrys Club. Of course, the NBI was only looking for underage girls. I guess they didn`t find nothing to complain. By the way, Paradise-bar on Fields which was raided a few weeks ago remains closed.

Cebu Pacific starts Clark - Bangkok route in November
Finally Philippines-based airline Cebu Pacific announced their upcoming, 3 times a week direct flight from Clark airbase, Angeles City to Bangkok, Thailand.
I think this is really good news for those tourists who combine their Philippines vacation together with a stay in Thailand. Many of my friends go to Thailand quite often and now they don`t have to travel to Manila airport anymore. It`s just a lot more convenient when you sit in your house or hotel in Angeles City and you know that the airport is only a 10 minutes taxi ride away.
Departure time is at 1.45pm in Clark with an estimated arrival time in Bangkok at 3.50pm.
The flight back from Bangkok to Clark is at 4.20pm and should arrive at 8.25pm. For me the timetable is perfect !
Cebu Pacific will start the new route on November, 8th.
I guess I will use their service once in awhile when I feel homesick for Soi 6 in Pattaya :-) !
